Farewell to our valued colleague, Dr. Sara Thompson

In January, Group Health will say farewell to a valued colleague, Dr. Sara Thompson. Dr. Thompson came to Group Health in 1982, excited to be part of a system where she could focus on practicing medicine, not on running an office.  In 1995 she joined the faculty of the Group Health Family Medicine Residency, and has served as the residency director for the last seven years.

Dr. Sara Thompson
Dr. Thompson appreciates what she calls her career’s “natural progression”: starting as a family medicine doctor, stepping into leadership as family medicine’s OB liaison, teaching as part of the family medicine residency faculty, and most recently, her administrative role as residency director. Throughout her career, Dr. Thompson has played an important role in shaping Group Health’s family medicine department and her contributions will endure long after her upcoming retirement.

For Dr. Thompson, the next steps in this “natural progression” will be continuing her work on the board of directors for Country Doctor Community Health Centers and with the Franklin High School Alumni Association, as well as some teaching roles with the Group Health Family Medicine Residency. Her retirement will also be spent finishing the home she and her husband are building in South Puget Sound, and enjoying meals with family and friends from their wood-fired pizza oven there.

We wish Sara Thompson the best in her retirement, and from all of us at Group Health, thank her for the years of dedication that she gave as part of our medical staff and in the development of the Group Health Family Medicine Residency.
