Practice and Leadership Development

World-class medical teams deserve great career development

We created our Practice and Leadership Development group to support the professional satisfaction of our medical group through training, recognition, consultation, and coaching services.

In addition to the robust CME curriculum offered by Group Health Cooperative, GHP’s own courses are designed to support new medical group hires, foster effective communication, and help doctors develop leadership skills as they grow their careers here.

The Practice and Leadership Development team also goes on the road, bringing on-site workshops to our medical teams like Courageous Conversations, Rewards & Recognition, Time Management, Service Excellence, and more.

Core programs

AP2 Class
PLD Medical Director David Kauff, MD teaches new GHP doctors how to work smarter, not harder, in our Epic electronic medical record system.

Associate Program for New Clinicians
A series of day-long programs for clinicians new to GHP. Clinicians hired within the same six month period form a cohort that trains together over three years. This program is required to earn Shareholder status in the organization.

Participants meet with GHP leaders to discuss topics related to the overall theme as well as practical ways to make their work more effective and satisfying. The programs are interactive and provide opportunities for participants to get to know their colleagues and leaders.

Program topics include

- Team Leadership
- Work-Life Balance
- Partnership in an Integrated System
- Working Efficiently in Epic
…and more

Facilitative Leadership
The role of the medical chief is a complex leadership position, and few chiefs have had formal training in leading a team or department. This program is designed to build and strengthen the practical day-to-day skills of physician leaders as they inspire their teams for high performance, while fostering a rewarding medical center culture.

Clinician-Patient Communication
Effective communication skills are the foundation for a patient-centered medical practice. We have a variety of skill based communication workshops for practicing clinicians. The curriculum is built around the Four Habits model, and is designed to support trusting, effective relationships with patients.
